Bush House, Index, WA

It was with great trepidation that I recently visited one of my favorite towns, Index, WA. I was concerned because it’s been too long since my last visit and at that time one of my favorite structures the Bush House hotel had been closed and looking like it was in serious need of restoration. So when I pulled into town I was steeled for the worst…

Well, what a wonderful surprise! Not only is the beautiful Bush House hotel still there, it is having a glorious restoration. The owners look to be doing a thorough, sensitive, and historically accurate restoration, that will return this 1898 gem to its productive and  honored place in the community.  Index, WA, USA. Unusual Side Gabled Hip Roof

Unusual Side Gabled Hip Roof

I like the way the gable on the porch roof echos the gables on both ends of the hip roof of the house. Note  the very “tight” monochromatic color scheme featuring a variety of greens; from the blue-green of the spruce to the aqua green of the lawn chair, to the greens of the home and trim. Bold and Brave Colors

Bold and Brave Colors

This fulvous orange is not a color that would work on every home. Here, however, someone is very adept at bringing out the warm excitement of this color without having it become harsh. They are smartly integrating this unusual color by picking it up in the pottery and soothing it by the use of the trim color and touches of blue. Central District, Seattle, WA, USA. Eclectic 1910

Eclectic Individual Style

Individual Style Implemented With Gusto

Whenever  I am in the area I like to take a look at the progress of this home. The owner has an individual style and has been working consistently to make the home meet his expectations. The  solid grey lends a bit of a sculptural  Louise Nevelson  like feeling. The iron work gives a light gothic filigree look. It will be exciting to see what the owner develops next!
